The mighty chainmail makes its long overdue 21st Century comeback. Elsa’s bags breathe new life into the ancient art form of chainmail: still as strong and resilient as armour, but repurposed to complement todays contemporary styles. 

Elsa Waller’s practice is influenced and informed by the historical techniques of chain mailing and sand casting. Elsa went on to  create a collection of unique, modern bags using the medieval craft of chain mail, which then inspired a collection of rings and pendants using the gothic medieval Old London Font. 

This historical interest then led her to explore the ancient method of sand casting which dates back 5000 years. This technique creates a textured and, at times, unpredictable finish to  her jewellery, perfectly complementing the tactile nature of the creative process and making each piece truly original.
