Ola Lewczyk’s work is embedded in craft, material research and slavic folklore practices. Working primarily with clay, beeswax and found natural materials, they use craft as a tool to explore the connections between human and the Other. In their practice personal symbolism is a medium and touch is a portal.
The candles are an offering of light from Ola’ hands to the hands of others. They are made with 100% beeswax collected by Ola’s granddad from his hives in a polish countryside, as a residue of the seasonal honey harvest. 5th generation of this companionship.
Each piece is only complete when lit, with hidden wicks becoming pathways of fire, multiple flames burning at the same time, wax pouring itself into new shapes, moving, shining, destroying, ceasing. The candles are hand-dipped and modelled by hand, each one unique.
