Therese Raffoul is a London-based Lebanese designer.
Her practice is dedicated to narrating the underbelly of Arab womanhood, moving away from the stereotypes of belly dancing seductresses.
Representation for Arab women in fashion is very narrow, with a vast gap between reality and what is marketed. To solely represent the desirable side is a form of censorship, perpetuating restrictive social parameters. At its essence, the brand is an exploration of the undesirable, the shadow side—an expression of what some might call a "less attractive," "less marketable" portrayal of women, highlighting real emotions such as anger and rage.
Therese Raffoul aims to break conventional notions of Arab female identities, creating fashion for women who bite back.
